Muncie Mission's Walk a Mile in My Shoes Cancelled Walk a Mile in my Shoes, 2010 will not be rescheduled.
You might want to watch out when Ray Raines, the Executive Director of the Muncie Mission, lets you know he is praying for snow because that is exactly what Delaware County and surrounding areas got on Feb 6, 2010, the date of the 6th annual Muncie Mission Walk a Mile fundraising event. After the county officials called a level one snow emergency it was thought to be in everyone's best interest and safety to cancel the 'walk'. These are the results of that decision:
The walk will not be rescheduled due to massive involvement of volunteers, staff, logistical items and sponsors at all levels. (There will be a back up date for the 2011 event.)
Individuals and groups wanting to have their collected funds added to the final numbers, and receive their official Walk a Mile t-shirts (while supply lasts) may do so by bringing them to the Mission administration office at 1725 S. Liberty St. Office hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.
The official Golden Sneaker award for top attendance was based on the group that had the most pre-registered walkers as of Feb. 6. That group was Cowan Elementary School with 127 registered walkers. (Online pre-registration for the walk more that doubled this year to more than 1,800.)
The official Golden Sneaker award for top fundraising team, with monies being turned in by Feb 12, 2010 at 4:30p.m., went to The Gathering. The amount collected was $3,757.50.
To date 15 teams have been presented with certificates of appreciation for collecting over $1,000.
We are aware of at least 3 teams that have scheduled their own 'walks' in March with proceeds to be given to the Muncie Mission.
Proceeds are down only 7% from 2009. To date $64,000 has been raised, with donations still being accepted.
We greatly appreciate all the volunteers, sponsors, committee members, churches and other teams that helped and/or were going to walk. Thank youfor making a real difference in the lives of those in need.
If anyone was planning on touring the Mission after the walk and would still like to do that please contact Don Ford, Director of Development, 288-9122 ext 224.

The theme this year is building HOPE with each step
The funds raised in this year's Walk a Mile fundraising event are necessary to keep hope alive and provide continual support for the many services the mission provides to the homeless and the desperate in East Central Indiana. You can help build hope for a better tomorrow by gathering sponsors for yourself, organize a team or sponsor a walker. Please explore this website to find additional information and the forms you will need.
